Domaine Blain-Gagnard is one of the finest white Burgundy estates, where the wine-making involves minimal intervention and prudent use of new oak. It is run by Jean-Marc Blain and his wife Claudine, the daughter of Jacques Gagnard-Delagrange. Chassagne-Montrachet lies towards the southern end of the Côte de Beaune and is famous for its white wines. Les Caillerets is located at the southern end of the village and sits above Les Champs Gain at an elevation between 250 and 280 meters. The name “Caillerets” refers to the chalky soil found there which contributes to the elegance and finesse typical of wines from this site, and is from vines planted between 1954 and 1987. Brilliant pale straw colour with subtle highlights of green around the edges and a watery hue. Aromas of ripe peaches, pears, nectarine and dried honey subtlety laced with hints of clove and gun flint show good intensity out of the glass. Traces of biscuity oak, nougat and spice are also evident. Rich, beautifully concentrated and possessing an elegant creaminess, fleshy white peach, ripe pear and nectarine fruit infused with dried honey characters impress with their intensity and overall balance. Elements of roasted almond, clove, gun flint, light nougat and spice sit beneath. Superb drive finishing dry and fresh with roasted almond and gun flint characters lingering on the very long aftertaste.
